5 Tests to Determine the Gender of your Baby! (Some Scientific, Some Not)
Since I opened Gender Reveal HD Ultrasound, my clients have shared all the crazy and not crazy ways they’ve tried to determine the gender of their baby.
1) The Ring Test:
When I looked this up I found two directly opposing directions for the ring test for how to determine the gender of your baby - on the same website! The mother will tie her wedding ring to a string and have someone dangle it over her belly. If it swings back and forth it is a girl and if it swings in a circle it is a boy. Or is it if it swings back and forth it is a boy and swings in a circle it is a girl? Since this is not scientific, I’ll let you decide.
2) The Cabbage Test:
This test involves mixing equal parts cooled boiled red cabbage water and your own urine. If the mixture remains purple you’re having a girl but if it turns pink or red you’re having a boy!
3) The Drano Test:
Don’t try this as it’s probably not safe because of the fumes or even accurate! This test involves adding your urine to two tablespoonfuls of drano. After the chemical reaction, if the mixture turns brown it is a boy and if there is no change it is a girl.
4) NIPT (Non Invasive Prenatal Testing):
There are at least two types of NIPT that you can do:
a) MaterniT21 - There are different versions of this test but they begin this type of testing at 9 weeks. This test may be covered by your insurance and if it is not expect to pay >$1,000.00. The primary reason for this test is to look for chromosomal abnormalities that may be present. In addition to this, it also can determine the gender of your baby by detecting Y chromosome (sex chromosome for males) in the mother’s blood. If it is present, it’s probably a boy and if not, it is a girl.
b) SneakPeek Gender Test - Another blood DNA test you can take at home and send back in the mail as early as 9 weeks. It also looks for Y chromosome in the mother’s blood. This company claims 99.6% accuracy. One of my clients told me about this test. She was told she was having a boy and when I did her gender reveal ultrasound she was definitely having a girl! The website says test results can be flawed if males are present and the tube gets contaminated with their DNA. The good thing is this test has a more attractive price point starting at $79!

Desde que abrí Gender Reveal HD Ultrasound, mis clientas han compartido todas las formas locas y no tan locas en que han tratado de determinar el género de su bebé.
1) La Prueba del Anillo:
¡Cuando busqué esto, encontré dos direcciones opuestas para la prueba del anillo sobre cómo determinar el sexo de su bebé - en el mismo sitio web! La madre atará su anillo de boda a una cuerda y hará que alguien lo cuelgue sobre su vientre. Si se balancea de un lado a otro, es una niña y si se balancea en un círculo, es un niño. ¿O si se balancea de un lado a otro, es un niño y se balancea en un círculo, es una niña? Como esto no es científico, le dejaré decidir.
2) La Prueba del Repollo:
Esta prueba consiste en mezclar partes iguales de agua de repollo rojo hervida enfriada y su propia orina. Si la mezcla permanece morado tendrá una niña pero si se vuelve rosa o rojo tendrá un niño.
3) La Prueba de Drano:
¡No intente esto ya que probablemente no sea seguro debido a los humos o incluso a la precisión! Esta prueba consiste en agregar su orina a dos cucharadas de drano. Después de la reacción química, si la mezcla se vuelve marrón, es un niño y si no hay cambios es una niña.
4) NIPT (Pruebas Prenatales No Invasivas):
Hay por lo menos dos tipos de NIPT que se pueden hacer:
a) MaterniT21 - Existen diferentes versiones de esta prueba, pero comienzan este tipo de pruebas a las 9 semanas. Esta prueba puede estar cubierta por su seguro y si no se espera que pague > $ 1,000.00. La razón principal de esta prueba es buscar anomalías cromosómicas que puedan estar presentes. Además de esto, también puede determinar el sexo de su bebé al detectar el cromosoma Y (cromosoma para hombres) en la sangre de la madre. Si está presente, probablemente sea un niño y, si no, es una niña.
b) Prueba de Género de SneakPeek - Otra prueba de ADN de sangre que puede tomar a las 9 semanas en casa y enviar por correo para los resultados. También busca el cromosoma Y en la sangre de la madre. Esta empresa afirma el 99.6% de precisión. Una de mis clientas me habló de esta prueba. ¡Le dijeron que era niño y cuando hice su ultrasonido de revelación de género definitivamente es una niña! El sitio web dice que los resultados de las pruebas pueden ser defectuosos si los machos están presentes y el tubo se contamina con su ADN. ¡Lo bueno es que esta prueba tiene un precio más atractivo a partir de $79!
